Patching systems without downtime (for Pega Platform versions 8.3 and earlier)

Suggest edit Updated on September 29, 2021

For 8.3 and earlier patch releases, the Pega zero-downtime, split-schema patch process scripts move rules into the rules schema patch, while the scripts move rules and objects in and out of the data schema using an in-place process.

For details about the difference between a major upgrade, a minor upgrade, and a patch, see Pega Platform patches.

Use the out-of-place patch process for zero-downtime patches

Complete your patch without downtime using the out-of-place patch process. Pega zero-downtime patchs are reversible.

While the out-of-place patch process is the recommended method, some clients might prefer to apply the patch in-place, which applies the patch without using the temporary data schema. In-place patchs involve down time. For details, see, Applying a patch in-place.
