PEGA0128: Authentication failure in email listener

Suggest edit Updated on September 7, 2021

Pega Predictive Diagnostic Cloud™ (PDC) generates the PEGA0128 alert when the email listener authentication fails when connecting to the email server.

Example message text

Listener would go into disabled state or sleeping state.Listener Name : office365test, Listener Email Account Name : office365test, Listener Id : EMAIL-Thread-49, Receiver Email Id: pioneers02@pegadeveloper.onmicrosoft.com, Node Id : 68c949bec4b5e9d5704a15e770071246. AUTHENTICATE failed.

Note: The email listener enters a disabled state if the Email/BlockOnAuthenticationException dynamic system setting is set to true. The email listener enters a sleeping state if the Email/BlockOnAuthenticationException dynamic system setting is set to false, and retries the connection after waking up. The owning ruleset of the Email/BlockOnAuthenticationException dynamic system setting is Pega-IntSvcs.

Next steps

  • If the email account credentials have changed, update the credentials and then restart the listener.
  • To configure the email listener to enter the disabled state when an authentication failure occurs, set the value of the Email/BlockOnAuthenticationException dynamic system setting to true. Disabling the email listener prevents the listener from retrying the connection after an authentication failure, which could result in the server blocking your account.
  • If the problem persists after you update the account credentials, contact your system administrator for additional support.

For more information, see Restarting the email listener and Editing a dynamic system setting.
