Required Oracle optimization parameter

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.3

To optimize performance, set the Oracle parameter optimizer_index_cost_adj to a value between 20 and 25. If this value is not set, the system can run exceedingly slowly, potentially blocking users from login.

Synchronized database and application server settings

Configure your database and application server to use the same time zone and character encoding to avoid conflicts.

Case Management

This release had a focus on extending key capabilities to improve the ease of configuration based on early adopter feedback.  Improvements were made in run-time performance, especially in high volume situations with complex case configurations.  A series of cosmetic changes and fixes are included.

  • The Wait shape now supports dynamic references.
  • Issues were addressed with the CreatePDF and the CascadingApproval Smartshapes.
  • Attachments have been improved.
  • Issues with the Create Case Type functionality were addressed.
  • The Pega Pulse functionality has been improved, including its performance.
  • When auditing a work item, History is now the default tab.

DCO

In this release, specification support in Case Designer was improved.  Also, improvements and fixes were made to the New Application Wizard.

  • Changes were made to support a split schema environment
  • Shared and Component RuleSets can be copied.
  • Can edit in Word from either Grids or Lists.
  • More than 50 case types are now supported for an application.

System Management

Valid from Pega Version 7.1.3

The PRPC installer has been enhanced to handle additional error conditions related to partial installs and duplicate keys; additionally, the hotfix rollback feature has been improved, and the Rulebase compare tool now supports HTTP(S) environments.

  • Rollback feature has been enhanced.
  • RuleBase Compare will work for secure (HTTPS) environments as well as  non-secure (HTTP) environments.
  • Install will gracefully handle the presence of a duplicate key during import.
  • When install fails, system will set tables back to original state.
  • Remote MBean methods will now work on multi-servant load-balancing systems.
  • Enhancements were made to harnesses in Split Schema systems.

If you generate screenshots to include in your application document, this process still runs on your local client. Additionally, you are still required to use Internet Explorer to use this feature.

Depending on your system configuration, the following warning message might be displayed when you open a document that was generated on the server.

If you click No, certain content (for example, Table of Contents) is not populated in the document. Instead, click Yes and save the document.

Schema not found error when importing a Rule-Admin-Product file

If you import a Rule-Admin-Product file (RAP) file that includes a schema that has a view, grammar parsing changes can mean that the Pega 7 Platform is unable to find the schema.

To enable the Pega 7 Platform to find the schema:

  1. Review the error message that indicates that the schema was not found and identify the following items:
    • The name of the schema that is causing the error
    • The table name in the format: wrong_schema_name.table_name...
    • The DDL that the Pega 7 Platform is trying to apply
  2. Use the table name to identify the correct schema name in your system. This schema is usually your data schema, but might also be an external database.
  3. Download the DDL.
  4. Correct the schema name and save the DDL.
  5. Manually apply the DDL.

High number of busy waits when using Oracle SecureFiles

You might experience a high number of buffer busy waits when using Oracle SecureFiles for BLOB storage. An Oracle buffer busy wait occurs when a session cannot access a database block in the buffer cache, because another session is either reading the block into the buffer or changing the buffer. As a best practice, use Oracle 11.2.0.4 or later, because earlier versions have more problems with SecureFiles. In addition, to minimize the number of busy waits, set the hidden Oracle parameter _securefiles_concurrency_estimate to 50, and partition the table by using a composite range hash partition that is based on the pxCreateDateTime and pzInskey columns.

Email approval and instantiation not supported on multitenant systems

The Enable email approval check box appears on the General tab of an approval step in Case Designer in multitenant systems. It also appears on the Approval shape in Designer Studio. In addition, in Designer Studio, the Settings tab in Case Designer displays the option to configure email instantiation. However, because configuring email listeners is not supported on multitenant systems, you cannot enable email approval or email instantiation.
