Adding regions and reference lines

Maximize the informative value of your chart-based insights by including supplementary elements that highlight the most meaningful data.

For example, in a sales insight, you can include a horizontal reference line that indicates the expected revenue to identify departments with subaverage results. You can also color specific regions of the chart to identify a value range that is substantial for your insight.
  1. In the navigation pane of your application, click Explore Data.
  2. In the Insights section, in the Name column, click the insight that you want to modify.
  3. In the upper-right corner of the insight, click Edit.
  4. On the Chart tab, in the Reference lines and regions section, manage your chart:

    1. In the Lines section, click Add line.
    2. In the Add line dialog box, customize the reference line.
      For example:

      In the Value field, enter 20000 to locate the line on the axis next to the specified value.

    3. Click Submit.
    Mark specific areas in the chart
    1. In the Regions section, click Add region.
    2. In the Add region dialog box, customize the area on the axis that you want to feature.
      For example:

      In the Min and Max fields, enter 1000 and 5000 values respectively, to distinguish the area within that range.

    3. Click Submit.
  5. In the upper-right corner of the insight, click Save insight.
For example: In the following example, the reference line indicates a satisfactory level of sales by state, whereas the region marked in green shows the range of minimum expected sales.
