Report categories

A category provides a way for managers to classify and organize reports in the Report Browser.

Categories are of the following types:

Public category
Public categories provide shortcuts to reports that are provided by the system and reports that managers have made publicly available. A public category is either a standard category, which is visible to all the managers in the application, or a shared category, which is visible to managers who belong to one access group.
Private category
Private, or personal, categories provide shortcuts to reports that one manager creates. Other managers cannot run or view these reports unless the owner makes copies of the reports available. A private category is visible only to the owner.

Application developers can create standard, shared, and personal categories from Dev Studio. Managers can create public categories, which are of shared type by default, and private categories for their own use from the Report Browser.

Example of grouping reports under categories

As a release manager, you look at the following reports daily to monitor the status of the current release, which is being handled by multiple teams:

  • Quality metrics per release deliverable
  • Status of release deliverables
  • Average performance time per release deliverable
  • Quality metrics per team

You can group the reports under the relevant standard public categories:

  • Analyze Performance
    • Status of release deliverables
    • Average performance time per release deliverable
  • Analyze Quality
    • Quality metrics per release deliverable
    • Quality metrics per team

You can access the performance reports in the Report Browser in the Analyze Performance category and access the quality reports in the Analyze Quality category.
