Importing business unit hierarchy updates

Updated on June 21, 2021

If you need to make bulk changes to your business unit hierarchy, such as adding multiple new business units and updating several configurations, you can import bulk changes using a CSV file.

  1. In the header of Pega Workforce Intelligence, click AdministrationOrganization.
  2. On the Organization page, click the Departments tab.
  3. In the upper-right corner of the page, on the Actions menu, click Export.
Result: The exported file is blank since you are importing your hierarchy for the first time. Otherwise, the exported file contains the current business unit information for your organization.
  4. Add the hierarchy information from your system of record to the columns in the .csv file, using the following guidelines and table of column descriptions.
Note: Bracket characters, including [] and <>, are not supported values.
    ColumnDescription
NameThe name of the business unit as you want it to be displayed on reports.
Unique IDThe unique identifier for the business unit. This value is required because business units can have the same name. This ID is case-sensitive.
Parent NameThe parent name as you want it to be displayed on reports.
Parent IDThe unique identifier for the parent of the business unit
LevelThe level of the business unit, which is company, department, or team. Ensure that you have only one entry (row) to define the company level of your hierarchy.
Production Goal %The business unit’s production goal percentage, expressed as a value from 1 to 100. The production goal percentage is used to calculate expected production hours. Leave blank if you want the business unit to inherit the production goal percentage from the parent business umit.
Assigned ConfigurationThe name of the business unit’s assigned configuration. Leave blank if you want the business unit to inherit the assigned configuration from the parent business unit.
StatusA value of enabled or disabled signifies the status of the business unit. Leave blank if you are updating this file, but do not want to change the status. If you just added a business unit, the default is enabled for insert.
  5. As you finalize the CSV file, keep the following guidelines in mind:
    • The maximum number or rows supported in the spreadsheet is 5,000.
    • The maximum file size supported for upload is 1MB.
    • When you export and open the file in a program like Excel, the program could change the format of your data, such as removing any leading zeros. For more information, see Exporting and Importng IDs in Workforce Intelligence.
  6. After finalizing your changes to the spreadsheet, be sure to save it as departments.csv.
  7. In the header of Pega Workforce Intelligence, click AdministrationOrganization.
  8. Click the Departments tab.
  9. From the Actions menu at the top-right corner, click Import.
  10. In the Import Departments window, drag and drop your updated departments.csv file, or you can click to browse and select the file.
Result: The system imports your business unit hieararchy. A success message is displayed at the top of the Import Departments window.
  11. Close the Import Users window.
