Formatting a radio button matrix in a survey

Suggest edit Updated on November 5, 2021

Format a radio button matrix in a survey to ask a series of related questions that are answered by selecting one option from a repeating group of radio buttons. For example, you can ask users to rate their pain threshold on a scale of one to five for different activities, such as swimming, running, or walking.

Before you begin: Add a question of type Radio button matrix to your survey. For more information, see Adding a question to a question page.
  1. Find a radio button matrix question to format, if you do not have one open already.
    1. In the header of Dev Studio, click ConfigureCase ManagementSurvey.
    2. Click the name of a survey, and then click a question of type Radio button matrix.
  2. In the text field, enter the text of the question.
  3. For each column in the radio button matrix, perform the following actions:
    1. Click +Add column.
    2. In the text field, enter the text that is displayed as a header of the column.
  4. For each row in the radio button matrix, perform the following actions:
    1. Click +Add row.
    2. In the text field, enter the text that is dispalyed as a label of the row.
  5. Optional: Set the scoring for each column by completing the Question settings section.
For example, you can set the higher score for the most severe level of pain.
  6. Optional: Store the selected value in a column in a format that is different from the label.
    1. Click MoreAdvanced view.
    2. In the Reporting value field, replace the default value with your custom value.
For example, you can label the columns with adjectives describing different levels of pain, and then store the results as numbers.
  7. Optional: To control when the row is displayed, define conditions.
    1. Click MoreAdvanced view.
    2. From the Visible when drop-down list, select When, then click Edit.
    3. From the Field drop-down list, select the field that controls whether the row is displayed in the matrix.
    4. From the Comparator drop-down list, select the comparator for the when condition.
    5. Click Select values, and then select the value that determines whether the row is dispalyed.
    6. Click Submit.
    7. Click OK.
  8. Click Save survey.
