Outgoing emails lose formatting

Suggest edit Updated on August 16, 2021

Troubleshoot problems with email formatting by avoiding rich text editors.

When you send an email, the text format looks different from the format of the original or the received email contains broken links.

Formatting issues might be caused by rich text editors such as Microsoft Word. Rich text editors use highly complex HTML formatting instructions, which the email program might not be able to properly decipher and adjust to format the message.

Resolving problems with incorrect formatting of outgoing emails

  • Avoid using complex editing programs, such as Word.
  • Use plain text messages.
